Service Description

Ceramic Arts Enrichment Course Heart & Hearth Pottery’s Ceramic Arts Enrichment Course is a 12-week, hands-on pottery program designed specifically for homeschool students ages 7–17. Each week, students explore a different ceramic technique — from hand-building and slab construction to wheel throwing and glazing — while developing fine motor skills, creative problem-solving, patience, and the satisfaction of making something real with their own hands. Our small class size (3–6 students maximum) ensures every child receives individualized instruction and meaningful time at the wheel. This isn’t a drop-in craft activity — it’s a true semester-long curriculum that builds skill progressively from week to week, giving students a deep and rewarding experience with the ceramic arts. Why Ages 7–17 Together? One of the beautiful things about pottery is that it meets every student exactly where they are. A 7-year-old pinching their first bowl and a 15-year-old centering clay on the wheel are both fully engaged, fully challenged, and fully proud of what they create. In a small-group setting, mixed ages actually enrich the experience — older students develop leadership and mentoring skills, while younger students are inspired by what’s possible. This mirrors the homeschool philosophy of learning together across ages rather than being separated by arbitrary grade levels. Our instructor adapts each week’s project so that every student is working at an appropriate skill level while sharing the same studio experience. What’s Included • All clay, glazes, and ceramic materials • Use of pottery wheels, hand-building tools, and studio equipment • Kiln firing for all student work (bisque and glaze firings) • Individualized instruction from an experienced ceramic arts educator • Students take home every piece they create throughout the semester • Minimum enrollment: A minimum of 3 students is required to run the class. Families will be notified at least one week before the semester start date if minimum enrollment is not met, and full refunds will be issued.
