Mastodon (Black Stoneware)

Mastodon Mid Fire is a richly pigmented black stoneware that performs beautifully in our electric oxidation kilns at Cone 6. When fired, it develops a deep charcoal-black body with strong surface depth.

It contains fine grog for added strength and stability while remaining smooth enough for refined throwing and detail work.

With low absorption and proper vitrification at Cone 6, this clay produces strong, durable functional ware when glazed and fired correctly. It is an excellent choice for bold forms, sculptural work, and pieces where you want the clay body itself to make a statement.

All clay fired in the studio must be purchased through Heart & Hearth to ensure firing consistency and protect kiln integrity.
