Porcelain
Porcelain is a versatile mid-fire porcelain that performs beautifully in our electric oxidation kilns at Cone 6. It throws smoothly and trims cleanly, making it an excellent choice for both functional ware and refined forms.
While not translucent like our Translucent Porcelain, it produces a bright white surface that pairs especially well with celadon and other glossy glazes, creating a smooth, glassy finish.
Firing: Cone 6 (electric oxidation)
Average Shrinkage: ~12.42%
Absorption
Rate: ~2.94%
Texture: Smooth, no grog
With approximately 12% shrinkage, pieces will reduce moderately from wet to fired state. Plan accordingly for fitted forms.
At 2.94% absorption, this porcelain remains within functional stoneware range when properly fired and glazed. Fully glaze functional ware to ensure durability and water resistance.
Porcelain benefits from even compression and steady drying to minimize cracking or warping.
All clay fired in the studio must be purchased through Heart & Hearth to maintain firing consistency and protect kiln integrity.
