L&R Deep Red (Mid-Fire Stoneware)

L&R Deep Red is a smooth, responsive mid-fire clay with a rich red body that performs beautifully in our electric oxidation kilns at Cone 6. It throws with a silky, porcelain-like feel while maintaining the strength and forgiveness of stoneware.

This clay is highly vitrified at Cone 6, resulting in exceptional durability and an ultra-low absorption rate.

Firing: Cone 6 (electric oxidation)

Average Shrinkage: ~12.75%

Absorption Rate: ~0.07%

Texture: Smooth, minimal grit

Because this clay shrinks more than many other bodies, be sure to account for approximately 12–13% size reduction from wet to final fired piece.

With an extremely low absorption rate (near zero), properly fired pieces are dense, strong, and highly durable for functional ware.

All clay fired in the studio must be purchased through Heart & Hearth to ensure consistent results and protect kiln integrity.
